Molly Rose — the paintings
Molly Rose is a young adult on the autism spectrum. She discovered her artistic expression at a young age under the tutelage of LA artist and teacher Myra Horwitz, first showing her work at the Faulkner Gallery in Santa Barbara at age 12 and holding her first solo show in 2022 at the Artists Matter Gallery in Topanga, CA.
Her paintings have been shown at galleries and design spaces across California and beyond, including Bell Arts Gallery in Ventura, Emeritus Gallery in Santa Monica, Helms Design Center in Culver City, the Modernica Showroom in West Hollywood, MuzeuMM in Los Angeles, Hidden Wings in Solvang, and Mychal's Learning Place in Hawthorne. Commissions include special event wine labels for Ozymandias Wines in NY and Shokrian Wines in CA, and she won first place in The Art of Autism's contest for Women's History Month.
Her work belongs to private collectors from Tokyo and Rome to Auckland, Boston, New York, Santa Fe, Chicago and Los Angeles. When Molly isn't painting, she loves singing, listening to music, traveling and hiking with her dog, Stella.
Emily Grodin — the words
Emily Grodin is a minimally speaking autistic writer who learned to communicate at the age of twenty-five and found her voice in poetry. Her memoir, written with her mother, tells the story of her years without communication and the breakthrough that changed her life; NPR described it as a tender look at how language allows us to unlock our souls.
Her poetry has appeared in Solstice Literary Magazine and The White Rose Literary Magazine, and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society named her the first recipient of its Award of Excellence in 2022. She was honored by The Learning Rights Law Center and recognized by both the California Legislature and the Los Angeles City Council for her advocacy on behalf of the autistic community.
Emily is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Los Angeles Valley College and studied creative writing at California State University Northridge. She appears in a documentary based on her memoir and co-stars in the indie mystery film Pointing Fingers. A debut poetry collection is in the works.
